Josep M. Paret Planas

Lawyer specialized in legal defence (criminal defence and private prosecution) in criminal proceedings followed in courts throughout the country, in all types of crimes related to Economic Criminal Law and business activity.

My legal expertise has allowed me to work with several Ibex 35 companies, multinationals and medium-sized companies that are leaders in their respective sectors and to advise on highly complex legal issues, both in criminal proceedings already initiated and by providing preventive advice related to corporate criminal liability (corporate defence and compliance) and the avoidance of criminal liability of directors and executives.

Lawyer recommended by the main legal directories since their first editions (Chambers, Best Lawyers). In the latest edition of Best Lawyers, recommended in the specialities of Criminal Defence, Compliance, Environmental Law and Litigation.

PhD in Criminal Law with the highest qualification of Outstanding “laude”, University of Barcelona (1998).
Higher Diploma in Criminology, University of Barcelona (1986).
My experience as a lawyer began with my incorporation to Cuatrecasas in April 1991, to develop the newly created speciality of Economic Criminal Law. From the year 2000 I began to lead this practice in the Barcelona office, being appointed department director and a few years later quota partner and coordinator of said practice, a situation that lasted until May 2019.
In mid-2019, I started a new project as a founding partner of Laurea Legal (formerly Legal Jovs).

TEACHING

During all this time I have combined my activity as a lawyer with academic activity, obtaining the title of Doctor in Criminal Law and giving lectures in various legal and business forums.

Professor of the subject of criminal litigation of the Master’s Degree in Legal Practice at UPF-Barcelona School of Management.
